Clean! BAUER supports “3Cleanup Day”

A diver emerges from the murky waters of the Danube. In his hand is an electric scooter, covered in mud and algae. It is one of seven that were recovered from the water during a clean-up operation in Vienna as part of the Austria-wide “3Cleanup Days” initiative launched by mobile phone provider “3.” More than 60 dedicated divers sacrificed their free time for the entire day to clean up the Danube in a concerted effort. BAUER supported this outstanding commitment by supplying breathing air to all participants on site. A team from BAUER KOMPRESSOREN Austria and Munich put a VERTICUS compressor into operation in the supply pavilion, which had been transported to the banks of the Danube especially for Cleanup Day. With a delivery rate of 550 liters per minute, it confidently provided the required amount of air for the second or third dive, even during the midday rush hour. Renowned photographer and environmentalist Martin Aigner from Reef Project arrived with the Reefvillage team www.reefvillage.org and a huge pool of underwater equipment to help collect waste and photographically document the underwater campaign. Christian Redl was also there: the ten-time world record holder in freediving – today, exceptionally, with a diving tank on his back – actively supported the campaign underwater. The campaign was a complete success for the environment. For us as a society, however, it painted a rather dubious picture: in addition to the scooters, by the end of the day, half-rotten deck chairs, bicycles, collection bags full of beverage cans, and plastic waste filled an entire dumpster.
