1946–1955 | A dynamic start

Pioneering spirit in the post-war period – the starting signal for BAUER KOMPRESSOREN

1946 – Founded in difficult times

After World War II, Munich lies in ruins. But Hans Bauer does not hesitate for long: with unwavering determination, he founds BAUER KOMPRESSOREN – laying the foundation for a success story that continues to this day. It all started small on Wolfratshauser Straße: with single-stage compressors for paint spraying and simple tire pumps – mainly for agricultural use.

“I want to build machines that do their job 100%. Every percentage point less costs 10%.” – Hans Bauer, company founder

Compressors on purchase order

In the post-war period, there was a shortage of materials. Machines such as the legendary K 101 compressor could not simply be bought – they required so-called iron and bronze quotas, which were strictly allocated by the Allies.

Example:

  • Price of the K 101: DM 160
  • Required ration cards: 10 iron and 1 bronze quota

1948 – First signs of recovery

Two years after its founding, the company achieves its first economic success:

  • A major export order for 30 compressors marks its entry into international trade.
  • At the same time, series production of two-stage

compressor systems with a pressure capacity of 15 bar begins—a technological milestone for the still young company.

1954 – The breakthrough A milestone:

For the first time, BAUER KOMPRESSOREN exceeds the magic sales threshold of 1 million German marks. The company's economic success is accompanied by visible growth: new production halls are built on Wolfratshauser Straße, and the production program is systematically expanded. The course is set for further growth.

1955 – Mobile with diesel

The next technological leap: BAUER begins manufacturing mobile diesel compressors. These robust systems, initially with lower outputs and later with up to 140 hp, mark a decisive step on the path to large-scale industrial technology – laying the foundation for today's diverse product range.

A classic is born: UTILUS

This year also sees the birth of a true pioneer in diving: the first UTILUS high-pressure compressor goes into series production.

  • Output at the time: 80 liters of pure breathing air per minute Dimensions unchanged to this day, exported worldwide
  • Still in use today thanks to extreme robustness and availability of spare parts The name UTILUS (Latin for “useful”) symbolizes our claim: “Always air and safety for our divers.”
